How to Run an MT5 EA on a VPS
A VPS can keep desktop MetaTrader 5 running continuously without relying on a home computer. It is useful for EAs and trade copiers that need stable uptime, but the VPS still needs secure configuration and monitoring.
Why traders use a VPS
A VPS provides an always-on Windows environment for MT5. This can reduce interruptions caused by local power loss, sleep settings or home internet outages.
For latency-sensitive copying or automation, a VPS located reasonably close to the broker infrastructure may also reduce network delay, although execution quality is never guaranteed.
Basic setup
Install MT5 from the broker or MetaQuotes source you trust, sign in to the intended account, install the EA, load the correct preset and confirm Algo Trading permissions.
Disable unnecessary sleep behaviour, configure Windows updates carefully and make sure MT5 starts again after a planned reboot if continuous operation is required.
Security checklist
Use a strong unique VPS password, enable multi-factor authentication where the provider supports it and avoid sharing permanent remote-access credentials.
Keep the operating system and MT5 updated, install only necessary software and disconnect remote-support sessions when work is complete.
