TradingView to MT5 EA: What Can Be Automated?
A TradingView strategy or indicator can often be recreated for MetaTrader 5, but Pine Script and MQL5 are different environments. A reliable conversion starts by defining the actual trading rules rather than trying to translate code line by line.
Start with the strategy rules
Document entries, exits, stop loss, take profit, session rules, filters, position sizing and alert conditions. Clarify which conditions are evaluated intrabar and which require a closed candle.
If the TradingView script uses unavailable data or repainting logic, the MT5 version may need a different implementation.
Indicator versus full EA
An MT5 indicator can reproduce signals and visual levels without placing trades. A full Expert Advisor can add order execution, trade management, risk controls and licensing.
Choosing the right format depends on whether the goal is analysis, alerts or automated execution.
Validation before release
Compare representative TradingView signals with the MT5 implementation, then test on historical data and demo execution. Differences in broker candles and symbol specifications should be expected and documented.
A conversion should be treated as a software implementation project, not as a promise that historical TradingView performance will be reproduced live.
